not-so-wordless wednesday

Wednesday is supposed to be all about the image and no words, but last night was so awesome that I need to write words. The Hold Steady played here at Valentines last night. I've seen them play at least 5 times, but they never get old. I actually kind of hated them, then I was dragged to see them live and that was it. I loved them.
But the show here in town was announced about 2 months ago, and promptly sold out. But on Valentines Day, my awesome boyfriend was over at Valentines getting a show booked while I grabbed a table at our favorite restaurant across the street. He's in a band, and knows the staff at Valentines, and mentioned to the booking manager that I wanted to see the show. At that point it was already sold out. But he told us to show up anyway.
Fast forward to last night. We hadn't talked to the booking manager since that night, but we decided to go down and see if we could get in anyway. We walked up to the door, and there he was. Told the door guy to stamp us, and in we went. People were scalping tickets for $75-$100. Crazy.
The boyfriend stuck with me for 5 songs before disappearing to the bar. He doesn't like The Hold Steady at all, but took the night off of work to take me to the show to make sure I could get in.
Isn't he a sweetheart?! I have to admit that I haven't really listened much to their last two albums, and just wanted to go hoping to hear some of their older songs. They pulled through with all my old favorites. It was a massive night.

Sounds great! I saw them here in England a couple of years ago in a festival. They are good fun!
