This week's featured shop is ptitebaloue. Based in Quebec, this shop features small toy animals hand knit with natural fibers spun by the artist herself.
My name is Isabelle and I'm from Quebec city, Canada. I'm currently part of Etsy Treasury Team, Etsy fiber arts and Etsy kids. I've had my Etsy shop only for a few months but I LOVE it :)
Other than creating things for etsy, what do you do?
I've just finished a bachelor's degree in International Studies and Modern Languages, so I'm currently looking for a job in my field. Until then I'm working as a sales clerk in an art boutique in old Quebec city... And working part-time as a free-lance journalist. I wish Etsy could become my main job though, I love to create :)
What first made you want to become an artist?
I don't think I "chose" to become one, I've always loved to create, draw, knit, sing, make music... For as far as I can remember, I've always done it :)
Describe your creative process and the materials you use.
I've developped a couple of patterns for soft toys and started making them with acrylic yarn and polyester stuffing... but then started spinning my own yarn on a drop-spindle (I love it!!) so I'm currently switching to handspun, natural fibers... I'm also trying to replace polyester stuffing with pure wool, in order to make my toys 100% eco-friendly :)
What handmade possession to you prize the most?
I'm in love with a little stuffed horse I bought from Skunkboycreatures - I love her work!!
Top 5 websites you visit besides etsy?
Cyberpresse ....for news... in French thought ;)
Degrassi yeahhh although I'm a big girl now I love to watch episodes online
Paradise Fibers to shop for the loveliest fibers :)
Any advice you have for new etsy users
...GOOD PICTURES are the most important thing ever... mine are still not as good as I'd like them to be... but everytime I re-take them and make them better it increases my sales.
What are your favorite features of etsy, and what new features would you like to see?
I love the treasuries... ...and I'd love to see Etsy translated in French :)
How do you promote your shop/work?
I've tried buying showcases and advertising spots but it didn't really make any difference... I'll have to figure out something else!
In ten years, where would you like to be?
At home with my boyfriend - in our own house :) knitting and selling on Etsy as a full time job!!
If you would like to be featured in an upcoming feature friday, please send your answers to these questions in a etsy convo to capow.
